Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has stated that while the South-East region will eventually produce Nigeria’s President, it will not happen in the 2027 general elections.
Umahi made this known in a statement in which he called on the people of the South-East to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election efforts. His remarks were in response to a recent online publication titled “The Politics of Asphalt: Why is the South East Missing from the Map?”
Describing the publication as misleading and inaccurate, Umahi asserted that it was designed to paint the Tinubu-led administration as marginalizing the South-East in the area of infrastructure development.
“I understand that politics is now in the air and the chosen path by some persons is to deceive unsuspecting members of the public, look good before the people as one fighting for them and close both eyes pretentiously over the great and selfless infrastructure development Mr. President is doing all over the nation,” the statement reads.
The former Governor of Ebonyi State emphasized that the Tinubu administration is committed to equity in infrastructure delivery across all regions of the country. He disclosed that he has directed all regional directors of the Ministry of Works to return to project sites nationwide to document both inherited and ongoing projects, as well as new initiatives, so Nigerians can see the scope of development under the current administration.
According to Umahi, “Tinubu is using fair distribution of infrastructure to reunite Nigerians and renew their hope,” stressing that “only those who open their eyes will see the light of change in Nigeria.”
He maintained that support for President Tinubu should be embraced across the South-East, as the region remains part of the national agenda for progress and development, even if the presidency will not be zoned to the region in 2027.
