Factional National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), Abayomi Arabambi, has declared that former presidential candidate Peter Obi will not be on the party’s ticket in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Lunchtime Politics on Monday, Arabambi insisted that the party is considering three alternative names from different regions as possible presidential flagbearers.
“We are going to do our 2027 without Peter Obi, he will not have our ticket,” Arabambi stated. “If we begin to mention names now, I can assure you that they will be kidnapped and Labour Party will not have a candidate in 2027.”
According to him, the LP is already in discussions with credible individuals, including one aspirant each from the South-West, South-South, and South-East. He hinted that one of the potential candidates is a respected woman from the South-South, but declined to reveal her name.
Arabambi further criticised Obi’s supporters, popularly called the Obidients, describing them as political extremists. He alleged that their activities were creating instability in the country and accused Obi of promoting sectional interests.
The factional spokesman maintained that the party would resist any attempts by individuals or groups to hijack its structure ahead of the 2027 polls.
