The Rivers State House of Assembly, at its first legislative sitting, adopted a series of resolutions aimed at strengthening governance, restoring peace, and ensuring accountability in the state.
In its resolutions, the Assembly commended the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for restoring democratic institutions in Rivers State. The lawmakers further pledged to abide by the terms of the peace parley as well as the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the interest of peace and good governance.
The House also called on the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, GSSRS, to forward the list of his nominees for appointment as commissioners into the State Executive Council in line with constitutional provisions and the peace agreement.
Additionally, the Assembly urged the Governor to initiate the process of presenting an appropriation law to address the current realities of the remaining part of the year. The lawmakers resolved to ascertain activities over the last six months, particularly regarding the award of contracts and expenditures from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the State.
Finally, the Assembly resolved to immediately outline its legislative agenda for the remaining part of the third session of the 10th Assembly, ensuring it reflects the pressing needs and realities of Rivers State.
