Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, has announced that the state has received 27,980 applications for the available 4,000 slots in the second batch of the ongoing teachers’ recruitment exercise.

The Governor disclosed this on Friday during the November Edition of the Monthly Media Chat held at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Umuahia.

He recalled that earlier in the year, the state government successfully recruited over 5,000 teachers, who have since been deployed to primary and secondary schools across the state.

For the second batch, Governor Otti explained that the recruitment specifically targeted applicants who are willing to serve in rural communities, as part of efforts to ensure that schools in such areas receive qualified and competent teachers.

“Two weeks ago, we opened the portal for the recruitment of 4,000 teachers and just this afternoon, we have received 27,980 applications,” he announced.

Reaffirming his commitment to a transparent, merit-based process, the Governor assured Abians that political influence or favoritism will play no role in the selection.

“One thing I can assure our people is that the process cannot be manipulated. If you qualify, you will get it, and if you don’t qualify, no matter who you know, you will not get it.”

The Governor’s declaration further strengthens the administration’s push to raise the standard of education, particularly in underserved areas.
