As part of activities marking the final rites of passage for the late Dame Peace Igbokwe, mother of renowned businessman and philanthropist, Mayor Lucky Igbokwe, a solemn Service of Songs was successfully held on Thursday, December 5, 2025, at her Lagos residence, No. 34 Road A, Close House 13, Gowon Estate.
The service, organized by the Igbokwe family, was held ahead of the lying-in-state scheduled for January 10, 2026, and served as an opportunity for family members, friends, neighbours, and associates to gather in an atmosphere of worship, reflection, and thanksgiving for a life well lived.
The event attracted a cross-section of guests from different walks of life, all united in paying tribute to the late matriarch. Participants took turns to share personal testimonies and fond memories, describing Dame Peace Igbokwe as a woman of deep faith, kindness, resilience, and unwavering commitment to her family and community. Many speakers highlighted her role as a pillar of support, a disciplinarian with a compassionate heart, and a source of inspiration to those around her.
Hymns, scriptural readings, and prayers formed a significant part of the service, offering comfort to the bereaved family while reinforcing the Christian hope of eternal rest. The atmosphere was marked by solemnity, gratitude, and celebration of legacy rather than grief alone.
In his remarks, members of the Igbokwe family expressed appreciation to all who honoured their mother’s memory by attending the service, noting that the overwhelming show of love and solidarity was a testament to the impact Dame Peace Igbokwe had during her lifetime.
The family further announced that another Service of Songs will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, at the Igbokwe family house in Umuahia, Abia State, as part of the concluding burial activities, before the final interment ceremonies.
