A tragic incident has shaken the Hotoro Maraba area of Tarauni Local Government Area in Kano State after a young man was allegedly killed inside a mosque during the early hours of Monday.
The victim, identified as Malam Kasim, was reportedly calling the Adhan for the Asuba dawn prayer when an unknown assailant attacked him and slit his throat inside the mosque.
Eyewitnesses said the attack happened within the mosque premises, throwing worshippers and residents of the area into shock and panic.
In the aftermath of the killing, angry youths in the community reportedly carried out a reprisal attack, leading to the death of the suspected assailant at the scene.
Confirming the incident, the victim’s daughter, Maryam Kasim, said the family discovered her father’s body inside the mosque with clear signs of violence.
“We found our father’s body in the mosque. There were signs of a struggle, and the whole community was gripped by fear,” she said.
Security operatives were quickly deployed to the area to prevent further unrest and restore calm as residents gathered in anger and disbelief.
As at the time of reporting, no official statement had been issued by the Kano State Police Command, but investigations are expected to continue.
