Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that anyone, including President Bola Tinubu, could issue him political instructions regarding Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general election.
Wike made the statement while addressing supporters during a weekend gathering in Ahoada Local Government Area. He described as false reports suggesting that individuals were boasting the president would call him to direct political decisions in the state.
He maintained that no person had the authority to dictate Rivers political affairs to him and cautioned that repeated chants of “on your mandate” would not automatically secure an election ticket for any aspirant, an apparent reference to Rivers State Governor Siminalyi Fubara.
Recall that Governor Fubara recently defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Reaffirming his position, Wike said political choices in Rivers would be guided solely by his judgment and interests, not by outside influence. He stated, “I hear that people are boasting that they (President Tinubu) will call me and give me instructions. Let me tell you, there’s nothing like instruction as far as Rivers State is concerned. Nobody will call me. If you like shout ‘on your mandate’ 50 times a day, it won’t give you an automatic ticket.”
