National leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has declared that he cannot be influenced or bought in politics, insisting that he has no “price tag.”

The former Kano State governor made the statement while reacting to recent political developments in Kano, touching on loyalty, betrayal and the growing frustration among Nigerians over insecurity and economic hardship.

Kwankwaso said politics naturally comes with wins and losses but warned that betrayal often provokes public anger, especially in difficult times such as Nigeria is currently experiencing.

According to him, politicians who abandon principles for personal gain usually end up trapped in political arrangements with no clear future.

He noted that acts of betrayal have continued to erode the credibility of some political platforms and contribute to the loss of public trust, particularly in the face of poor handling of security and economic challenges.

Rejecting the notion that every politician can be bought, Kwankwaso stressed that his integrity is not for sale.

“People often say that everyone has a price in Nigeria. If you are looking for someone without a price tag, then come to Rabiu Kwankwaso,” he said.

He also described Kano’s political environment as unique, saying voters in the state are politically conscious and cannot easily be swayed with money or material inducements.

“Kano politics is different. Where else can someone come with bags of money and think they can simply buy people during meetings?” he asked.

Kwankwaso warned politicians and voters against short-term inducements during elections, noting that such decisions often lead to prolonged hardship.

“You may suffer for four years, get peanuts one day, and then suffer for another four years,” he said.

He concluded by urging political actors to remain principled and focus on the long-term interests of the people, stressing that leadership built on inducement and betrayal cannot deliver sustainable development.
