In a bid to fully recover Aba from the years of ruins and decays that strangled the socioeconomic progress of Aba, the Enyimba City, known for industry and commerce, Abia State Government will soon commence the reconstruction of Uratta and Old Express Roads.
The Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr Alex Otti, OFR, disclosed this on Sunday, January 25th, during a Church service at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Abayi Ariaria, Aba, in his usual way of going to Churches unannounced.
“We have been trying to recover Aba and I think that we have recovered Aba. But there is still some work to do. So, very soon, we will flag-off the reconstruction of Uratta Road.
“And, as we are flagging-off the reconstruction of Uratta Road, we are also flagging-off the reconstruction of Old Express Road.
“And, you can be sure it will be done the same way we do our things, very solid; by solid construction companies,” the Governor stated.
Speaking further, the State Chief Executive said, “I’m sure that very soon, we will complete those, so that we can complete the full recovery of Aba,” Gov. Otti added.
Governor Otti who expressed dissatisfaction with the low number of votes that normally come out from Aba during electioneering, charged the people to go and register in the ongoing continuous voters registration exercise and also mobilize their families, friends, and neighbours to also register to vote.
“I want to appeal to you, if you see the number in Aba and the number of votes that come out from Aba, it’s like darkness and daylight. So, I want to charge you, if you have not registered, please go and register.
“It is important; the only way you can ensure that we don’t go back to Egypt is for you to vote. You cannot vote if you are not registered.
“If you do not vote, you have voted for the wrong people. I’m not the one who said it, somebody said it – not voting is voting for the wrong person,” Gov. Otti added.
From St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Governor Otti proceeded to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Abayi Ariaria, Aba, where he was warmly received by the congregation .
The Governor responded to the request of the parish priest for the Church to be reconnected back to public power supply, after he was informed that the Church had been disconnected from public power supply for a very long time. He directed the Hon. Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities to visit the Church next Tuesday and begin the process of restoring their public power supply alongside the surrounding areas affected.
Recall that recently, the administration of Governor Otti restored power supply to so many communities in Asa Land after over 9 years of total blackout.
The number one citizen of the State thanked the Churches for all the support they’ve been giving to his administration; “Thank you for all the support you have been giving your government. This is a Government brought by Christendom,” the Governor asserted.
Ven. Michael Nwaubani of the St. Paul’s Anglican Church and Rev. Fr. Jephthah Asuoha of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church assured the Governor of their sustained prayers for him, declaring that the votes of their members are for him because he has done very well. The congregation affirmed the statements of the men of God with thunderous claps and shouts of joy. The men of God led their members into fervent prayers for the Governor, his family, entourage and the State.
The Governor was joined in the service by his amiable wife, Her Excellency, Mrs Priscilla Chidimma Otti, the Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Austin Okezie Nmeregeni alongside colleagues representing Osisioma North, Osisioma South, Aba Central and Aba North State Constituencies, the Acting Labour Party Chairman, Sir Emmanuel Nwaeze Otti, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, Ph.D, alongside other State Government functionaries, the Mayors of Osisioma and Aba North LGAs.
