Former Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka is reportedly on course to represent Austria at international level, potentially ending any prospects of playing for Nigeria.
Chukwuemeka is eligible to feature for the Super Eagles through his Nigerian parents, while his Austrian birth also qualifies him to play for Austria.
According to a report by The Athletic, the Austrian Football Association is actively pursuing an agreement that would see the 22 year old commit to Austria’s senior national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Currently on the books of Borussia Dortmund, Chukwuemeka previously represented England at youth level, featuring up to the Under 20 category.
However, he has not made an appearance for England’s senior national team, the Three Lions, a situation that keeps him eligible to switch international allegiance under existing FIFA regulations.
