Ngozi Okobi Okeoghene has expressed her delight at returning to the Super Falcons following a lengthy absence from the national team.
Okobi last featured for Nigeria at the 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations and was not included in the squad for the 2023 FIFA Women World Cup.
The 32 year old midfielder, who plays for Ottawa Rapid, subsequently stepped away from football due to pregnancy and childbirth.
Her return to the fold came as a surprise after she received an invitation last week for the Super Falcons’ double header international friendlies against Cameroon.
Reacting to the call up, the former Falconets star said she feels honoured to wear the national colours again.
“I’m excited, and happy to be back in the team again. I’m grateful, and honoured. I can’t talk about my expectations at the moment . The way I do things is to take one step at a time,” Okobi told the Super Falcons media.
She also addressed reactions on social media concerning her return.
“I have seen a lot of messages, criticism in the social media which I don’t to care about . I know what I did, and what has happened to me since child birth. It’s a blessing and not a cause.”
Okobi has earned 27 caps for the Super Falcons and will now be aiming to re establish herself in the squad as preparations continue for upcoming international engagements.
