African football legend, George Weah, has responded to the Confederation of African Football decision regarding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.

CAF stripped Senegal of the 2025 AFCON title and awarded it to Morocco following a ruling by its Appeal Board after a petition from the North African nation.

According to the verdict, Senegal’s abandonment of the pitch during the chaotic final amounted to a forfeit.

As a result, the board nullified the original 1 0 result and awarded Morocco a 3 0 walkover victory, officially declaring the host nation continental champions.

Reacting to the development in a statement on Thursday, Weah maintained that football matches should be decided on the pitch rather than through post match rulings.

The former Liberian President also urged the Court of Arbitration for Sports and other relevant authorities to take decisive action to ensure what he described as an injustice is addressed.

“The subsequent decision by the CAF committee, taken after the match had already been concluded, should not override the authority exercised by the referee during the game,” part of his statement read.

“Football must be decided on the pitch, not re decided after the final whistle.”

Meanwhile, Senegal forward, Sadio Mane, had also criticized CAF for awarding Morocco the 2025 AFCON title.
