Despite the ongoing leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress, ADC, the party in Rivers State has reaffirmed its commitment to activities geared towards the 2027 general elections.

The state chapter announced details of its screening exercise for aspirants ahead of its planned congresses.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the State Organising Secretary, Tony Dagony, the party urged all interested aspirants to adhere to the outlined schedule and procedures.

According to the statement, aspirants seeking positions at the state, local government, and ward levels are required to present themselves for screening at the State Party Secretariat, local government secretariats, and ward offices respectively.

The screening exercise is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

The ADC continues to grapple with an internal leadership crisis that has raised concerns about its stability. The dispute involves factions aligned with David Mark and Nafiu Bala.

The situation has further intensified following the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission to remove the party from its official website and withhold recognition from the competing factions.

In a related development, another faction led by the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, has announced plans to convene a national convention and set up an interim leadership to manage the party’s affairs.
