The Abia State Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Nigerians, particularly residents of Abia State, to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, citing what it described as years of poor governance and hardship under the ruling party.

Addressing a press conference in Umuahia on Wednesday, the State Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee, Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow, said the party remains united, strong, and fully prepared to field credible and people-oriented candidates across all elective positions in 2027.

He stated that the APC-led administration at the federal level, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has failed to address critical challenges facing Nigerians, including economic hardship, insecurity, and institutional decline.

According to him, Nigerians have endured over a decade of economic instability, rising inflation, unemployment, and declining living standards, noting that many citizens can no longer afford basic necessities.

“A government that has failed to improve the lives of its citizens in over a decade cannot be trusted with another mandate,” he said.

The PDP further expressed concern over the worsening security situation across the country, citing incidents of banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and communal clashes, which it said have eroded public confidence in government’s ability to protect lives and property.

The party also accused the APC of undermining democratic institutions and promoting a culture of impunity, warning against what it described as attempts to turn Nigeria into a one-party state through intimidation and manipulation of state structures.

Highlighting sectoral challenges, the PDP pointed to declining standards in education, poor healthcare infrastructure, underperformance in agriculture, inadequate infrastructure, and increasing national debt as evidence of governance failure.

The party urged Ndi Abia to remain vigilant, warning that allowing the APC to gain control in the state would amount to “importing failure” and reversing the gains recorded in recent years.

“A vote for APC is a vote for hardship, stagnation, and regression. Abia must not be allowed to fall into the wrong hands,” the statement added.

The PDP also cautioned against what it described as the rebranding of former political actors who had previously contributed to underdevelopment in the state, urging citizens not to be deceived.

While reaffirming its commitment to democratic principles, the party called on political stakeholders across party lines to unite in defending democracy and ensuring credible elections in 2027.

It also extended an invitation to other opposition parties in the state to collaborate in resisting any attempt to undermine democratic processes.

The party concluded by assuring its members of renewed strength and readiness to “rescue Nigeria” through responsible leadership and people-centered governance.
