The internal crisis within the African Democratic Congress ADC has intensified as factional National Chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe, rejected his purported suspension and criticised actions taken by the David Mark led faction.

Speaking to journalists on Friday, Gombe stated that the faction lacks the authority to impose disciplinary measures, noting that the matter is already before the court.

Recall that the David Mark led group had announced the expulsion of Gombe and a member of the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide.

Reacting to the development, Gombe said, “David Mark-led faction does not have any power to suspend me. Our matter is still in court.”

The party has been grappling with internal disputes in recent times, including developments involving the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC and leadership positions within the party.

In a related development, Gombe also described the national convention conducted by the David Mark led faction as illegal.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, he maintained that the gathering lacked legitimacy and that decisions taken at the convention hold no legal weight.

“The David Mark-led national convention is illegal. As far as the duly constituted and legitimate leadership of our great party is concerned, the coalition groups are not members of the ADC.

“Subsequently, they convened a convention. Any decisions emanating from such gathering are devoid of legal effect and cannot pass the test of legality,” he said.
