United States President Donald Trump has announced an indefinite extension of the ongoing ceasefire with Iran as diplomatic efforts continue.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated that the United States would maintain its naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz while negotiations progress.

He explained that mediators from Pakistan had requested that the United States delay any military action to allow Iranian officials present a unified proposal.

“I have therefore directed our Military to continue the Blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and able, and will therefore extend the Ceasefire until such time as their proposal is submitted, and discussions are concluded, one way or the other,” Trump wrote.

The decision comes just hours after Trump indicated in an interview with CNBC that he was unwilling to extend the ceasefire and had warned of possible renewed military action.

The President also reiterated his position that Iran would ultimately have to accept a deal with the United States.
