Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party is positioned to produce Nigeria’s next president in the 2027 general elections.
His declaration comes amid ongoing internal disputes within the party that have resulted in visible factional divisions. The leadership crisis has notably pitched Makinde against Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, despite Wike’s insistence that no faction exists within the party.
Speaking during the 103rd National Executive Committee meeting of his faction of the party held in Abuja, Makinde maintained that his camp remains focused on returning the party to national leadership.
“We should write it down. This gathering will produce House of Assembly members, will produce House of Representatives members, will produce Senators, will produce Governors, and will produce the next President,” he said.
Makinde’s remarks underscore growing political maneuvering within the PDP as it seeks to reposition itself ahead of the next electoral cycle, even as internal disagreements continue to shape its leadership structure.
