An aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Asari Toru Constituency One seat in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Tonye Tom George, has denied allegations that he attempted to bribe members of the party’s screening committee during the screening exercise.

The allegation was contained in a report issued by the screening committee and dated May 10. According to the committee, Tom George allegedly approached members during the exercise and handed over an envelope said to contain money alongside his passport photograph in an attempt to influence the screening outcome.

The committee further disclosed that the matter had been reported to the police for investigation.

Reacting to the accusation in an interview with journalists, Tom George dismissed the claims as false and unfounded.

He maintained that he is a law abiding citizen who does not engage in bribery or corrupt practices.

The APC aspirant also challenged the screening committee to publicly provide evidence to substantiate the allegation made against him.
