The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, screening committee has cleared former President Goodluck Jonathan by waiver ahead of the party’s presidential primary election.
The development was disclosed on Tuesday in Abuja by former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, who is a member of the Tanimu Turaki led PDP National Working Committee Presidential and Gubernatorial Screening Committee.
The clearance comes amid ongoing political developments within the opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
A faction of the PDP reportedly backed by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, had earlier announced that Jonathan would participate in the screening process as a presidential aspirant on Tuesday.
However, despite expectations that the former president would submit his nomination form on Monday ahead of the screening, reports indicated that Jonathan did not appear for the exercise.
