Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has disclosed how he persuaded former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to exchange greetings with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the inauguration ceremony of Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican.
Fayemi made the revelation on Thursday while speaking during an interview on State Affairs, a podcast hosted by Edmund Obilo.
According to the former governor, Obi was initially reluctant to approach Tinubu due to concerns that the media might misinterpret their interaction.
Fayemi explained that he eventually convinced Obi to greet the president when they met during the event at the Vatican.
The encounter first attracted public attention on May 18, 2025, after presidential aide Bayo Onanuga shared a photograph of Tinubu, Fayemi and Obi together on X during the inauguration ceremony.
Meanwhile, Obiasogu David, a known supporter of Peter Obi, criticised Fayemi over the revelation, accusing the former governor of seeking public attention through Obi’s name.
