Traditional rulers from various communities in the Ibeku Egwu Asaa area of Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State have publicly reversed a libation reportedly performed against Governor Alex Otti by former Commissioner, Charles Ogbonnaya.
Ogbonnaya, in a viral video circulating online, was seen pouring water on the ground while raising a kola nut and alleging that Governor Otti had denied the ancestors of the land their rights by choosing to run the affairs of Abia State from his private residence in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, instead of the Government House in Umuahia.
Reacting to the development, the traditional rulers and community chiefs from Ibeku land conducted another libation ceremony aimed at “nullifying and reversing” the earlier prayers reportedly offered by the former Commissioner.
The monarchs, drawn from different communities within the Ibeku clan, described Ogbonnaya as a respected son of the land but insisted that his actions did not receive the endorsement or approval of the traditional institution.
According to the royal fathers, it was inappropriate for anyone to perform such traditional rites without the knowledge or consent of the custodians of the land.
They further stated that they remained satisfied with Governor Otti’s performance in office and warned against dragging the name of Ibeku land into political disputes.
“Our son performed a role he was not mandated to perform. We are not dissatisfied with what our son did.
“He is our distinguished son but the action he took was not good and was never approved by we, traditional rulers, the custodians of the land.
“All evil wine and words against Governor Alex Otti are reversed. It shall be well with Governor Alex Otti,” the monarchs declared.
