Factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, has declared that the leadership crisis within the party will not be considered resolved until the Supreme Court delivers a final verdict on the matter.

Abure made the remarks on Tuesday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he addressed the ongoing dispute over the party’s leadership structure.

According to him, his faction remains committed to protecting the party’s legacy and image, insisting that those who built the Labour Party would not be responsible for undermining it.

He, however, maintained that issues of injustice and impunity within the party cannot be ignored.

Speaking on the controversy surrounding the party’s leadership, Abure criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for recognizing Nenadi Usman as the party’s interim national chairperson while legal proceedings remain ongoing.

“It is when the Supreme Court gives a final verdict on the matter that it will be said to be laid to rest.

“You know that the Labor Party was built and developed under me and got prominence under my leadership.

“I want to say very clearly that the proper thing that would have been done was for INEC to have waited till the final determination of the case by the Supreme Court before recognizing Nenadi Usman Usman as the national chairman of the party,” he said.

The Labour Party has continued to grapple with internal leadership disputes, with rival factions laying claim to the party’s national leadership and seeking legal interpretations on the legitimacy of their respective positions.

The outcome of the pending legal proceedings is expected to play a significant role in determining the future direction of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
