Nigeria has recorded its highest crude oil production in 11 months, reaching 1.70 million barrels per day in May 2026.

According to recent data released by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), the country’s crude oil production in May exceeded the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) production quota of 1.5 million barrels per day.

The latest figures reflect a strong production performance, with combined crude oil and condensate output ranging from a low of 1.51 million barrels per day to a peak of 1.86 million barrels per day during the review period.

The May 2026 output marks Nigeria’s highest production level since July 2025, when daily production climbed to 1.71 million barrels.

Among the country’s major export terminals, Bonny Terminal recorded the highest output in May with 293,870 barrels per day.

Forcados followed closely with 289,900 barrels per day, while Qua Iboe ranked third with 173,360 barrels per day.

Escravos contributed 135,470 barrels per day, while Odudu, also known as Amenam Blend, completed the top five production streams with 63,250 barrels per day.

The NUPRC attributed the increase in output to improved operational stability across production facilities, noting that no major pipeline disruptions or facility outages were recorded during the month under review.

The rise in production is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s oil revenue outlook and improve foreign exchange inflows as the country continues efforts to stabilize output and maximize earnings from the energy sector.
