The Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, has intensified efforts to strengthen the party’s ranks by appealing to former member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chukwudi Apugo, to join the Labour Party.
Dr. Anyaso made the appeal on Friday during a visit to the country home of the former lawmaker at Nkata Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Government Area.
Addressing Hon. Apugo, Dr. Anyaso said the Labour Party remains the ideal platform for individuals committed to selfless service and good governance, insisting that Governor Dr. Alex Otti has transformed Abia State through purposeful leadership.
According to him, leaders with integrity and genuine passion for public service should align themselves with the Labour Party in order to consolidate on the achievements of the present administration.
“I came to tell you that this is the time to join us. We have a Governor who has placed Abia on the global map and transformed the fortunes of our people for good,” Anyaso said.
He maintained that politics should be driven by service rather than personal gain, stressing that members of his political team are motivated by a desire to serve the people.
“We have seen the light. Abia is working, and there is no reason to support any political platform that seeks to derail the progress already achieved. Governor Alex Otti needs people who are intentional about serving the people,” he added.
Responding, Hon. Chukwudi Apugo, who represented Umuahia East State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, commended Governor Alex Otti’s administration, revealing that he obtained the Certificate of Occupancy for his school under the current government after unsuccessful efforts while he was in office.
“The Certificate of Occupancy for my school, which I could not obtain while I was in power, was approved under Governor Alex Otti’s administration,” Apugo stated.
The former lawmaker also expressed disappointment with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, alleging that he was sidelined after the last House of Representatives election.
He declared that he would not support any APC candidate seeking election into the National Assembly in 2027.
Earlier, the Director-General of the Chima Anyaso Campaign Organization, Pastor Okechukwu Dike, said the delegation visited Hon. Apugo to seek his support for the Labour Party and Governor Alex Otti’s re-election bid.
He expressed confidence that Hon. Apugo’s decision to join the Labour Party would significantly strengthen the party’s political structure in Ibeku and beyond.
Also speaking, a Labour Party chieftain and former Chief of Staff to a former Governor of Abia State, Prof. ACB Agbazuere, urged the former lawmaker to join the Labour Party, describing Governor Otti’s administration as one deserving of broad-based support.
Agbazuere said Governor Otti’s performance had earned the confidence of many Abians, adding that supporting the administration’s continuity was in the overall interest of the state.
