African Democratic Congress, ADC, vice presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi has responded to comments by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who claimed that Atiku Abubakar selected him as running mate because of financial considerations.
Amaechi, while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, said he would not engage in exchanges with Wike, whom he described as his subordinate.
Wike had earlier criticised Amaechi’s political influence in Rivers State, arguing that he lacked the electoral value needed to boost Atiku’s chances in the 2027 presidential election.
Reacting to the remarks, Amaechi said:
“I don’t respond to my subordinate. Wike never hired me. By the time I finish mourning and go into campaign, anybody that insults me, I will insult him back.”
Amaechi was initially a presidential aspirant of the ADC but lost the party’s primary election to Atiku Abubakar.
Following the primary, Atiku reached out to Amaechi, and the ADC later announced him as its vice presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.
