Former Cross River State Governor and Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, presidential candidate, Donald Duke, has warned that Nigeria is heading toward a major crisis unless urgent steps are taken to change the country’s direction.
Duke made the remarks on Tuesday during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, where he explained that the current state of the nation prompted his return to active politics.
According to him, the country requires immediate intervention, and opposition parties must unite to offer Nigerians an alternative leadership.
“I returned to politics because of the urgency of where we are in Nigeria today. Disaster is looming if we don’t change the trajectory.
“You could be a spectator and make all sorts of analyses, or you could get involved. The direction the country is going requires urgent intervention.
“The folks who are in charge of the country today are generally my generation, as it were, and the president and I were the class of ’99. But the direction the country is going, I think, requires very urgent intervention.
“I’m not a member of the ruling party, as it were. So automatically, I’m in the opposition. Ideally, the opposition should come together,” he said.
The former governor maintained that the challenges confronting Nigeria require decisive political action, stressing that the opposition has a responsibility to work together in changing the nation’s current trajectory ahead of the 2027 general election.
