-Says erring Officers won’t be spared—

The newly deployed Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Afolabi Wilfred Olutokunbo, has assumed duty as the 35th Commissioner of Police in the state, pledging to prioritize capacity building and mentorship of police personnel to strengthen professionalism and ethical conduct within the Command.
CP Afolabi, who formally assumed office at the Abia State Police Command Headquarters, Umuahia on Monday 10th August 2026, said his administration would focus on equipping officers with the knowledge, skills, and professional orientation required to effectively discharge their responsibilities in line with the standards of the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Dissu.
Addressing journalists shortly after assuming office, the new Commissioner said his approach would emphasize training, mentorship, and professional development before disciplinary measures are applied.
“It is not every case that requires dismissal. That is why I will focus more on capacity building and mentoring of our men,” CP Afolabi said.
He, however, warned that officers who continue to violate professional standards after undergoing the necessary training and mentorship would face appropriate disciplinary measures.
“But if after all these and someone is found wanting, we won’t compromise on disciplinary procedures,”
“If you shoot a motorists with no justifiable reason and bring your traditional ruler to Clem and plead on your behalf, I won’t listen to them “he stated.
The Commissioner stressed that the objective was to build a more professional, disciplined, responsive, and citizen-oriented police force capable of effectively addressing security challenges across Abia State.
The new CP was formally received by the outgoing Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, who has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) who formally handed over the leadership of the Abia State Police Command to CP Afolabi and introduced him to senior officers of the Command.
The new Commissioner is expected to outline his operational priorities for the Command as he settles into office.
