Rivers State Government has dismissed reports suggesting a disagreement between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly over the state’s 2026 Appropriation Bill.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, said Governor Fubara was not at loggerheads with the lawmakers but was working closely with them in the interest of the people of Rivers State.
The statement followed reports published by some national newspapers and online platforms alleging tension between the Executive and Legislative arms of the state government over the 2026 budget.
According to the government, the 2026 Budget proposal has already been presented to the House of Assembly and is currently undergoing the normal legislative process.
The government expressed confidence that the budget would be passed by the lawmakers upon completion of the legislative process.
The Rivers State Government also said it was not interested in being drawn into another round of political controversies, stressing the need for peace and harmony to promote development across the state.
It therefore urged individuals and groups allegedly promoting what it described as negative narratives to desist from such actions.
The government maintained that cooperation between the Executive and Legislative arms was necessary to ensure the steady development of Rivers State.
