A United States District Judge, Beryl Howell, has reportedly given US Attorney Jeanine Pirro four additional days to comply with an order directing the release of records relating to allegations of drug trafficking involving Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu.

The development was disclosed by Dr Von Batten Montague York in a post on X, where he stated that Judge Howell noted that the matter had remained pending for more than three years.

Pirro had reportedly requested an additional 10 days to comply with the court order concerning records held by the US Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Drug Enforcement Administration.

However, the judge reportedly granted only four additional days, setting August 21, 2026, as the deadline for compliance.

Von Batten Montague York described the development as a renewed effort by Pirro and the Department of Justice to release the records, insisting that the documents should now be made public.

“We deeply appreciate US Attorney Pirro and the DOJ’s renewed motivation to release these documents, and we agree with Judge Howell. This case has been pending for three years. The time to release the Tinubu drug trafficking files is now,” he wrote.

He further argued that the strategic relationship between the United States and Nigeria should not prevent the release of the records.

“As President Trump has indicated, our shared interests with Nigeria do not mean supporting an alleged drug trafficker,” he added.

The reported deadline of August 21, 2026, is expected to determine whether the relevant US authorities will comply with the court directive and make the requested records publicly available.

The reported August 21, 2026 deadline does not by itself establish that the records will be released, because the court order’s exact scope and any permitted redactions will determine what becomes public.
