The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has criticised the absence of President Bola Tinubu and the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, from a recent Peace Accord signing in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The NDC Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, Theo Abu Agada, made the remarks on Tuesday while highlighting the participation of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in engagements with Nigerians ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, had organised the Peace Accord signing for political parties and their candidates in Port Harcourt.
Reacting to the absence of Tinubu and Atiku, Agada argued that Nigerians needed political leaders who were accessible and willing to engage directly with the electorate.
In a post on X, he wrote:
“The presidential candidates of the APC and the ADC, President Bola Tinubu and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, were conspicuously absent from the Peace Accord signing and the NBA event in Port Harcourt.
“Only the presidential candidate of our great party, the NDC, His Excellency Mr Peter Obi, has been the only major candidate in this election attending these important events.
“Nigerians do not need people who are too big to talk to them.
“Our candidate has been readily available, meeting and talking with Nigerians.”
Agada maintained that Obi’s participation in public engagements demonstrated his willingness to interact with Nigerians and discuss issues affecting the country.
His comments come amid heightened political activities as candidates and political parties intensify their campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.
