Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and his nephew, Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, have faced criticism on social media over the governor’s support for the All Progressives Congress and President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
The controversy followed Adeleke’s declaration that he would work to deliver Osun State for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
The governor was reportedly included in the APC Presidential Campaign Council and appointed coordinator of the City Boy Movement in Osun State.
His political alignment has sparked questions from Nigerians who recalled his earlier opposition to the APC during the Osun governorship election.
Davido has also come under scrutiny as some of his old posts criticising the APC resurfaced online.
In one of the posts being circulated, the singer wrote, “Anybody supporting APC in Osun is an enemy of progress.”
Several users on X criticised the governor and the singer, with some accusing them of inconsistency over their political positions.
One user, @kokomatic, argued that Adeleke’s possible move to the APC could be a strategic political decision, noting that alliances and reconciliation with former opponents were common in politics.
The user wrote that joining the APC could reduce political tensions and unnecessary spending, adding that political actors sometimes benefit from forgiving former rivals and working with them.
Another user, @AwoOluu, criticised Davido and questioned his credibility, arguing that the governor’s current position contradicted the support he received from Osun residents during the governorship election.
The user claimed that many people had made personal sacrifices in support of Adeleke and described his alignment with the APC as a disappointment.
Other users also questioned the apparent difference between the Adeleke family’s opposition to the APC governing Osun State and the governor’s willingness to support the party at the national level.
@SEA KING described the governor and Davido as opponents of progress, while @samuelorio accused the family of displaying political double standards.
Similarly, @boxypiper questioned why the family would oppose the APC in Osun but support the party’s leadership of Nigeria.
Some commenters called on Davido to publicly address his uncle’s political position, arguing that the singer had previously spoken out against the APC.
@GreatCbscjim said he hoped Davido would explain his position to his audience, while @FSYusuff alleged that the governor’s support for Tinubu could have implications for the next presidential election.
Other reactions expressed disappointment with the governor’s political shift, with some users accusing politicians of changing positions when it suited their interests.
However, some commenters viewed Adeleke’s reported alignment with the APC as a strategic political calculation rather than an unexpected development.
The debate has continued to generate reactions online, with critics focusing on the contrast between the governor’s earlier opposition to the APC in Osun and his current support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election.
