The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has dismissed claims that the Federal Government plans to increase electricity tariffs, assuring Nigerians that the government is focused on improving power supply nationwide.
Tegbe gave the assurance during the groundbreaking ceremony for five interconnected mini grid projects with a combined capacity of 17.7 megawatts and a 17.74 megawatt hour Battery Energy Storage System, BESS, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
He said the government’s priority was to strengthen electricity supply and ensure Nigerians have access to reliable power.
“I want to say this clearly and without ambiguity: there is no plan to increase electricity tariff. What we are planning is a power sector that works around the clock. Our commitment is 24/7 power,” he said.
The five projects are located in Bola, Jiboye, Molade Adelubi, Ogo Oluwa and Sooko Elega. They are expected to serve communities across Akinyele, Ido, Ibadan North, Egbeda and Lagelu Local Government Areas of Oyo State.
The minister urged Nigerians to disregard misinformation about a possible electricity tariff increase, reiterating that the government’s focus was on delivering a more reliable power supply.
