Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has warned his successor against scrapping the state’s security network, Amotekun, and other agencies established by his administration.
Makinde issued the warning on Thursday during the commissioning of the newly constructed office complex for the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority, OYRLEA.
The governor, whose second term is expected to end in May 2027, insisted that none of the agencies created under his administration should be dismantled by the incoming government.
He listed the agencies as OYRLEA, the Oyo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency, the Oyo State Project Performance Monitoring Agency, the Oyo State Mobilisation Agency for Socioeconomic Development and the Oyo State Anti Corruption Agency.
Makinde explained that the agencies were established to promote orderliness and improve governance across the state.
He warned that dismantling them could have negative consequences for the state, adding that any administration genuinely committed to Oyo State’s future should preserve the institutions.
“At the heart of good governance is the rule of law. When people know their rights and security agencies enforce the law without bias, you have order, investors come in, and the economy improves. That is what we have experienced in Oyo State,” he said.
