The camp of Seyi Makinde, presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, has declared its intention to defeat President Bola Tinubu in key battlegrounds during the 2027 presidential election.
The position was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by Richard Ihediwa, the party’s Director of Strategic Communications.
The group maintained that Tinubu’s planned visits to the states would not reverse what it described as growing opposition to his re election bid.
It listed Rivers, Oyo, Kaduna, Plateau, Borno, Enugu, Bauchi, Sokoto, Delta, Kano, Adamawa and Lagos states, alongside the Federal Capital Territory, as areas where it expects Makinde to defeat the president.
The group attributed the alleged public dissatisfaction to the economic hardship Nigerians are experiencing under Tinubu’s administration.
It also accused the president’s policies and members of his inner circle of deepening public discontent through what it described as political arrogance.
According to the group, the administration has spent trillions of naira on projects and programmes it considers wasteful while ordinary Nigerians continue to face economic difficulties.
“Mr President should know that his visit to these states, if he eventually does, will not in any way change the direction or the determination of the people to vote him out.
“We challenge President Tinubu not to have a change of mind but visit the states to face the people,” it said.
The declaration comes as political parties and opposition groups intensify their preparations for the 2027 general election. The states identified by Makinde’s camp represent its political projections, rather than confirmed election outcomes.
