Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure support in the FCT during the 2027 presidential election.
Wike gave the assurance on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting with political stakeholders from the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party in the Abuja Municipal Area Council.
The minister, who coordinates the APC Presidential Campaign Council in the FCT and Rivers State, said political differences should not prevent leaders from working together to develop the capital.
He described the gathering as one of his happiest days, noting that political rivals were coming together to pursue common interests.
“President Tinubu’s administration has made significant progress in the FCT, including moving forward with the Apo Karshi Road project after 16 years of delay. The administration has also promoted inclusiveness by creating women and youth secretariats and elevating career civil servants to senior positions,” Wike said.
Defending the removal of the fuel subsidy, Wike said successive administrations had avoided taking the decision despite describing the policy as problematic.
“Every president said it was a scam, but nobody had the courage to say it would go. That is the pain we will endure till we get it right,” he said.
He added that increased allocations to state and local governments had created greater opportunities for infrastructure development without excessive dependence on commercial bank loans.
Wike disclosed that the campaign council would soon be inaugurated, adding that preparations for the 2027 election were already underway.
He urged eligible voters to come out with their Permanent Voter Cards on election day and vote for Tinubu and other candidates of the party.
