A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Dele Momodu, has argued that presidential leadership requires vision, experience and the ability to manage people and resources rather than physical strength alone.
Momodu made the remarks on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, responding to comments by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde about the need for energy and stamina in a presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.
“The job of a president is not to be a high jumper or long jumper. It is to think; it is to have clear vision; it is to have experience; it is to have exposure and be tolerant. Leadership is about managing people and resources,” Momodu said.
He maintained that Nigeria needs a leader capable of making sound decisions, setting clear priorities and effectively managing the country’s human and economic resources.
Makinde had recently suggested that Nigeria requires a younger and energetic candidate with the stamina to lead the country in 2027.
However, Momodu insisted that age and physical energy alone do not determine a leader’s effectiveness, stressing the importance of experience, exposure, tolerance and leadership capacity.
He also said the ADC was positioning itself as a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
