Vice-President Namadi Sambo has said that neither the Federal Government nor the Peoples Democratic Party is afraid of the use of card readers in the coming elections.
He said, instead, there was a need to be cautious in its deployment to ensure that no Nigerian was denied the opportunity of voting during the elections.

Sambo spoke in Akure on Wednesday when he met with the heads of Muslim communities of the South-West, Edo and Delta states, who endorsed the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan.

He said it was the concern of the government that the elections should be credible, free and fair.

He said, “There has been a test in two states per zone, the results have shown that at least there have been 40 per cent failure on the samples that have been done.

“The ultimate thing is to ensure there is a proper and fair election in terms of authenticating registered voters.”

Sambo told the clerics that Islam was against terrorism and those creating terror were not representatives of Islam.

He said that Jonathan had shown his commitment to developing the Southwestern part of the country through the provision of roads and the establishment of tertiary institutions in the region.

Meanwhile, the Imams in a communiqué at the end of the session endorsed Jonathan for a second term in office, saying he possessed the character to provide the needed atmosphere for religious tolerance and effective education in the country.
