Stampede: Police detain principal over Ibadan children carnival

Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, the principal of Islamic High School in Bashorun, Ibadan, has been taken into custody by men from the Oyo State Police Command.

It was discovered that Fasasi had been in custody since the police invited him on Wednesday.

According to our correspondent, the principal’s incarceration is related to the Wednesday rush at the school.

According to reports, the stampede that took place in Ibadan yesterday claimed the lives of at least 32 children.

The incident happened at Islamic High School in Bashorun, Ibadan, during a children’s carnival that was planned by Naomi Silekunola, the estranged wife of Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ile-Ife.

However, our correspondent found out that the school’s principal was invited and later arrested in relation to the event.

According to a source close to the principal, Fasasi accepted the invitation from the police at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

The source, who wished to remain anonymous, clarified that the principal was taken into custody when they arrived.

According to the source, Fasasi is being detained in the Iyaganku region’s Criminal Investigation Department, or CID.

The principal has not been disclosed as of the time this report was filed.

“The principal of the school, Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, has been detained by the police.

“He was invited around 4:00 p.m. yesterday, and he honored the invitation.

“He has been detained since then. He has not been released,” the source said.
