As political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 presidential election, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has described former President Goodluck Jonathan as a more appealing candidate compared to former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Thursday, the ACF’s Publicity Secretary, Prof. Tukur Muhammad-Baba, downplayed Obi’s recent promise to serve only one term if elected, dismissing it as a desperate political tactic.

“The one-term issue is simply political talk, a clear act of desperation. On the surface, Goodluck Jonathan appears attractive,” Tukur stated.

He pointed out that since stepping down in 2015, Jonathan has garnered significant goodwill and international recognition, factors that, in his view, have enhanced his public image.

“Over time, and especially since 2015, Jonathan has accumulated a lot of positives. He gave up when he thought he lost the election, and he has been living a quiet life. He has also gained several international recognitions. Developments since 2015 seem to favour him,” he said.

However, Tukur noted that while Jonathan’s profile remains strong, he would still need to put in considerable effort to reintroduce himself to Nigerians, particularly younger and first-time voters.

“It’s still a long way till 2027, and he will need to do a lot to sell himself,” he added.

Although former President Jonathan has not officially declared his intention to contest in 2027, multiple reports suggest he is considering a return to the presidential race.
