Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has urged former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to contest the 2027 presidential election under the PDP platform.
There has been speculation about the possible return of the three politicians to the PDP to strengthen their chances of securing the presidency in 2027. However, none of them has publicly confirmed an intention to return to the party. Atiku and Jonathan are also yet to state whether they will run for president.
Olawepo-Hashim said the reported interest of Jonathan, Atiku, and Obi in returning to the PDP and contesting for its presidential ticket would be in the interest of democracy.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Hassan Mahmoud, he stressed that their possible return would promote inclusiveness within the party.
“The more, the merrier, a robust and competitive primary will not divide the PDP, rather, it will reassert its credentials as the true party of democracy in Nigeria.
“If Jonathan, Atiku, Obi and others wish to contest, they should be welcomed,” the statement read.
