The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has summoned Ibom Air cabin crew member Juliana Edward and passenger Comfort Emmanson over the recent controversial incident aboard an Ibom Air flight.
NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, confirmed that both parties have been invited for further investigation. He explained that he personally spoke with Emmanson earlier in the day and that she and the cabin crew member would appear before the authority for questioning.
Achimugu clarified that the pilot did not call in security personnel upon landing in Lagos since the issue appeared resolved during the flight. However, Emmanson, who visited the restroom after landing, was the last passenger to disembark from the aircraft. He assured that NCAA remains committed to uncovering all the facts surrounding the incident.
Speaking at the Emergency National Civil Aviation Security Committee and Stakeholders Meeting in Abuja, Senator Buhari Abdulfatai, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, blamed the increase in aviation-related misconduct on a decline in discipline among passengers, crew, and airport staff.
Meanwhile, NCAA has issued a new directive mandating that all passengers completely switch off their mobile phones during take-off and landing.
The controversy involving Emmanson has continued to generate heated debate across the country’s aviation sector.
