In an official statement issued on Wednesday, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano, confirmed that his membership of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has come to an end following what he described as a “sudden expulsion.”
The lawmaker, who expressed shock over the party’s decision, maintained that his recent interviews in English and Hausa should not have attracted such a penalty, arguing that they aligned with the NNPP’s founding principles which encourage diverse opinions.
“No invitation was extended to me to defend or explain myself by any organ of the party,” Jibrin stated, adding that the process neglected “the very important principle of fair hearing, due process and justice that the NNPP cry out loud and demand from others.”
While expressing his disappointment, the legislator stressed that he was accepting the party’s decision “in good faith and without grudges,” despite believing that the expulsion lacked proper procedure.
On allegations of non-payment of dues, Jibrin clarified that he had never refused to pay and called on the party to send him an invoice, promising prompt settlement. He appealed for a “decorous” separation free of insults or personal attacks.
Jibrin also criticized what he described as NNPP’s lack of appreciation for the political value of its members, noting that he would rather “invest it where it will be appreciated with dignity.”
He thanked the party for the support he enjoyed during his time with them, affirmed his contributions, and assured his supporters that he would soon decide on his next political direction.
“I welcome all my supporters who wish to join me in my new journey. But for those who chose to remain in NNPP, I hold no grudges… I will carefully weigh all the options before me as I decide on my next political home. So help me God,” Jibrin concluded.
