Veteran journalist and politician, Dele Momodu, has accused agents of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of hijacking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying the opposition party has been reduced to a state of paralysis.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday, Momodu, who recently resigned from the PDP to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, described the situation as a political tragedy.
“The PDP has been completely hijacked by agents of the APC who insist on remaining in the party while working for the ruling government. It is an anomaly,” Momodu said. “PDP has reached a dead end. Some people don’t want to bury it, but to keep it in the ICU for their own purposes.”
He explained that his decision to leave the PDP was driven by conscience, stressing that remaining in the party while working for a coalition would have been dishonourable.
Momodu also recalled his political trajectory, noting that he contested the 2011 presidential election on the platform of the National Conscience Party after leaving Labour Party, which at the time showed no interest in presenting a presidential candidate.
According to him, his departure from the PDP was inevitable, as the party, in his view, has lost the capacity to rescue itself from internal sabotage.
