Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has said that Arsenal are among “four or five teams” capable of winning the UEFA Champions League this season.
Carragher made the comment while analyzing the Gunners’ emphatic 4-0 victory over Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.
Viktor Gyokeres scored twice, while Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli also found the back of the net to secure Arsenal’s dominant win and maintain their perfect start in the competition.
Carragher noted that Arsenal’s defensive solidity makes them a major contender for the title.
“My Liverpool team that won the Champions League in 2005 were not a great team attacking-wise, but we were strong defensively,” he said.
“That always gives you a chance, especially when you get to the knockout stages and the two-legged ties.
“If you’re strong defensively you’ve always got a chance. So, yeah, I see Arsenal as one of the four or five teams that can win this competition.”
