Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has reportedly been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The arrest was disclosed by human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, in a post on X, where he accused the police and the administration of President Bola Tinubu of undermining the country’s judicial system.
Effiong wrote: “The arrest of Omoyele Sowore at the Federal High Court in Abuja moments ago is preposterous. The police and the Tinubu regime are making a mockery of our judicial system. He should be freed immediately. Stop the shenanigans.”
Before his arrest, Sowore had shared on Facebook that he was at the court alongside former Attorney General of the Federation, Kanu Agabi (SAN), the lead counsel representing Nnamdi Kanu in his ongoing trial.
In the post, Sowore stated that Agabi informed him of plans by his legal team to withdraw from Kanu’s case, a move that would leave the detained IPOB leader to continue his trial without legal representation.
