Former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech believes Arsenal face a tough task in trying to break the Premier League defensive record set by the Blues 20 years ago.
Arsenal have conceded only three goals in their opening nine league matches this season and sit four points clear at the top of the table. If they maintain their current rate, they could finish the campaign with around 13 goals conceded, which would beat Chelsea’s long-standing record of 15 goals let in during the 2003/04 season under Jose Mourinho.
Cech, who played a key role in that defensive feat alongside John Terry, acknowledged Arsenal’s impressive form but stressed that sustaining such performance over 38 matches will be difficult.
Responding to Terry in a TikTok video, he said Arsenal “have a chance” if they continue their current level, but added that breaking the record would be “a hard job” and require not only consistency but also a measure of luck.
The former goalkeeper, who also had a spell at Arsenal, said he will be watching closely as the season progresses. Chelsea prepare to face Tottenham this weekend as they seek a return to winning ways in the Premier League.
