Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has said that Igbos will not remain on the sidelines in national politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the launch of the Renewed Hope Initiative in Osisioma Ngwa, Abia State, Kalu stressed that the region is ready to align more closely with decision-makers at the federal level.

According to him, the Southeast has spent too long “sitting on the fence” while key national development decisions are made. He argued that direct engagement at the centre is necessary to secure meaningful progress.

Kalu praised President Bola Tinubu for infrastructure projects in the Southeast and for appointing individuals from the region to federal positions.

“Igbo will not sit on the fence in 2027. Igbo won’t sit on the fence when the issue of politics is being discussed at the centre,” he said, adding that leaders from the region must stop “missing out of a moving train.”

He questioned why Abia was “moving back when other states are going to the front,” urging residents and political actors to position themselves for inclusion in federal governance.
