Former Anambra State Governor Chris Ngige’s convoy was attacked on Thursday along the Nkpor–Nnobi Road in Idemili North Local Government Area.
According to a statement by his former media aide, Sir Fred Chukwuelobe, Ngige was not present in the convoy when the incident occurred.
A policeman in the pilot vehicle was shot, and the attackers suspected to be dressed in police and army uniforms reportedly took his firearm and uniform. The pilot car was heavily damaged by gunfire.
A woman who was filming the attack on her phone was fatally shot. A shop owner who rushed out to see what was happening was also hit by bullets. He suffered major blood loss and is scheduled for surgery to remove the bullets. He is said to be in stable condition and expected to recover fully. The escort leader who was injured has already undergone surgery and is also expected to recover.
Chukwuelobe stated: “I spoke with His Excellency, Dr. Ngige, who confirmed the attack and assured that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure adequate medical care for the injured. He also extended condolences to the family of the woman who was killed while recording the attack.”
