Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola, widely known as FRYO, has won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary for the August 8, 2026 election in Osun State.
The primary, held on Tuesday in Osogbo under tight security, produced Adedamola as the clear winner.
Chairman of the PDP primary election committee, Humphrey Abba, announced that Adedamola secured 919 votes out of 957 accredited ballots cast. He noted that 20 votes were voided, mainly due to the withdrawal of one of the candidates, believed to be Governor Ademola Adeleke.
“The remaining valid votes all went to Adebayo Adedamola, who scored 919 votes. He is hereby declared elected and returned as the PDP candidate,” Abba declared.
Despite Governor Adeleke’s recent resignation from the PDP—which he conveyed in a letter dated November 4, 2025—his name still appeared on the ballot for the primary.
Party officials insisted that the election followed due process, with only accredited delegates participating.
This development comes after Osun PDP chairman, Sunday Bisi, announced on Monday that the primary scheduled for December 2 had been postponed due to leadership issues at the national level. However, a faction of the party proceeded with the exercise in Osogbo.
