A former Chief Whip and member representing Dunukofia constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly Lawrence Ezeudu has defected from the All Progressives Congress APC.

Ezeudu, a known supporter of the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party Peter Obi, officially joined the African Democratic Congress ADC.

His defection was conveyed in a letter addressed to the ADC Chairman of Ifitedunu Ward 2 in Dunukofia Local Government Area Lawrence Akoba.

A brief ceremony to formalise the defection was held on Sunday at the former lawmaker’s residence in Umanugwo village Ifitedunu.

Explaining his decision in an interview with journalists, Ezeudu attributed his move to what he described as a deepening crisis and poor leadership within the APC at both the local government and state levels.

He said the persistent internal crisis within the party had weakened its capacity for effective political engagement and influence.

“After careful reflection of activities, crisis, divisions and poor leadership of the APC at the local government and the state levels, I have decided to step away from the party to join the ADC and pursue other commitments that align with my personal and political convictions, in which I strongly believe I will get it through ADC.

“My defection to the ADC became necessary because that is the platform that will offer me the opportunity to serve the people of my constituency better, and also Anambra, as well as the South East and Nigeria in general.

“I remain grateful for the opportunities and experiences I have gained while being a member of my former party.”

The defection adds to ongoing political realignments in Anambra State as parties reposition ahead of future elections.
